This post is all City of Heroes. Please ignore if not interested. ^_^
The Rikti are invading once again, after the initial invasion. The heroes of Paragon City had fought them off, with the exception of the Rikti War Zone. But the Rikti are back again, on certain dates of course. I don't know what the Rikti are thinking really. Announcing what dates they're going to attack the city ahead of time just seems like a not so smart move. ^_-
Tonight, I ran my Archery/Energy Blaster Sirian. Thanks to tonight's run he's at 34 and 1/2. I ran a few missions until I saw the new green announcements of the Rikti invasion. Since I'm still working on the bomb badge, and that I like being in the zone during invasions, I hurried to finish the mission so I can help out.
I missed the first run until the Rikti finally attacked Kings Row. Then I took out two bombs there. But that zone was the last of the first invasion run. I ran another mission until I saw the announcements again. There I exited to find Founders' Falls under siege.
I tend to hang back and find less populated areas to fight the Rikti in. Easier on my modem that way. In bomb hunting, I take the edges of zones to hunt. Founders' was just a mess and I've not learned the zone enough to really hunt there easily. So I just hung around the train station and fought off Rikti as they portaled in. The pace that they appeared seemed a bit faster than usual, but I attributed that to being near the train.
I ran to Steel Canyon for that invasion, where everything seemed as usual. It was Skyway City that really made me wonder. I had finished the bomb in Steel Canyon, and took the train back to Skyway. I arrived to find the Rikti bombing. I had totally missed the alerts since they're green now and I was fighting quite a few Rikti in Steel. So I jumped over to the Talos exit and started looking for bombs. Lag caught me, and since the bombs gain hp until they explode, I couldn't do much after I straightened out. But I did find one between two buildings that was only halfway to exploding. As I fired at it, I heard the sounds of Rikti portals opening up.
It's here that the Rikti started to beam down in earnest. One after another, drones, Rikti monkeys, Guardians, and Conscripts started appearing faster than I could take them out. It was the two black armored Headman Gunners and a Chief Mentalist that I died the first time to. Thankfully, the no XP debt to invasions was still working. Not that debt bothers me really. I play a Blaster. We're debt magnets. But I'm trying to level here, and having debt slows me down. It was the bomb exploding that took me out the second time. It was then I decided I couldn't take all these Rikti on, so I ran for the nearby Police Drones. I counted six active Rikti while I fled. Much more than the usual two to three. They teleported out once I got far enough away.
The Police Drone took out two while I tried to gain health. Health back to mostly full, I went back out under open sky. Two Rikti beamed in, a Guardian and a Headman Gunner. A Conscript and Drone joined them shortly afterwards. This time I was in a better position to fight. I took them out as fast as I could. More Rikti showed up, along with a Chief Mentalist. My archer did what he could, using both arrows and enery punches to defeat them quickly. I was shooting at a Drone when the War Walls went back up. I'm not certain if the Drone died to my attack, or to the sudden withdrawal of the Rikti.
I asked on broadcast if anyone else had fought what I had. No one else reported such a heavy attack. Strange. Maybe the Rikti have it out for me tonight. I perhaps defeated too many of their brethren. Who knows. I thought it unusual.
(Man, I should write this in-character sometime. ^_^)
