What a day and political stuff

Nothing like a blah day with a horrendous headache.

A really horrendous "look I'm turning into a migrane" tension headache. Which made me feel sick and crying on the way home... Blah. I'm much better now, after some Excedrin and a neck massage. I still have a bit of headache, so I don't plan to be online very long.


In other blah news, I heard on the radio this morning that the Texas legislature is currently discussing a gay marriage ban bill. It is in the House right now, and part of the bill stipulation that it is made a part of our constitution so that the courts cannot strike it down as fast. (Does that make sense?)

Here are the bills regarding same-sex marriages in the Texas Legislature at the moment:
HJR6 Proposing a constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman. As of April 4th, its left pending in a committee.

And the other one:
HJR19 Proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the recognition of a same-sex marriage or civil union. As of February 8th, this bill was referred to State Affairs.

I hope to keep up with news of these bills. Though the second bill is just confusing to me. *sigh*


To add to the blahness, I saw a teenager smoking outside of the place I got lunch at, with two others just sitting there with him. I just shook my head and went on. Thank you, teenager, for shortening your life-span.

Blah. I'm going to metaquotes to cheer myself up.

ETA: Okay, according to copperbadge, maybe I shouldn't visit metaquotes yet. Bah. Going to visit other journals now.

Do you remember that proposition from a couple of years ago that let employers off the hook on providing domestic partner benefits? IIRC there had been a huge amount of controversy because the sponsors of it needed X thousand signatures just to get it on the ballot, and a lot of people were reporting that the petition they'd signed was represented as being /for/ requiring domestic partner benefits.

Sadly, this'll probably pass. If freaking OREGON can pass an amendment refusing to recognise gay marriage, I don't think there's any chance of it getting shot down here.

What pisses me off is the second one. It's like the first one wasn't exclusionary enough, so they needed to put in a second one keeping gay (or unmarried) couples from receiving ANY kind of legal recognition. *hates on*

I think I might have heard about that one. You know, I'm not surprised about the controversy about that. Heaven forbid we try to have rights.

Considering the current mood of our legislature (and Texas' voters), I'm pretty sure it will pass. I was happy that at the presidental elections, our state wasn't one of the eleven that banned gay marriage. Especially considering we were the state that had the sodomy law. But now, I'm angry that its a possibility that Texas voters will choose to vote this bill into law (or an amendment).

Now that I'm awake, yes, the second bill is horrible. I'm hoping the legislature runs out of time before they can even think about looking at this bill. Not that the first one is any better.
