You know the Fafner DVD I mentioned in the last post? That I was going to start watching volume two last night?
I watched it. It cliffhanged horribly. I couldn't leave it there so I put volume three in and watched it. Finished the two at 4am in the morning and decided that I needed the sleep. So I pushed watching volume 04 until the night. And wow...
That was a hell of a volume.
So in a 26 episode series, the mid-episodes are the ones that generally have the awesome plot and cliffhangers for a series. Fafner definitely came through there with Kazuki leaving the island, the teacher betraying Alvis and Kazuki all in one, the revelations of the children pilots, what happened to Soshi when he was younger, what happened to Kazuki's mother, who is the core, and so much more.
It was a plot-filled bunch of episodes just on volume four. As much as I loved volume one, volume four definitely wins for best volume so far. And out of all of the characters, the teacher is the only one I want her comeuppance to happen since I'm rooting the island.
I know its not innuendo. I tell my brain this. It's a strong friendship with two people who can't seem to talk to each other the way they should. But every time Kazuki tries to understand Soshi and Soshi does the same without trying to talk to each other, my brain goes woo! Bad brain! But they're finally starting to really talk and understand each other again, and I'm rooting for that. (And I won't believe my brain unless they actually confess or something obvious like that... ^_^ I have a doujinshi for that anyways. ^_^; But come on! Crossing the communication of Siegfried and Mark Sein so that they can understand each other, Kazuki had to show Soshi that he understood a little more of Soshi and even the main female that hangs around them knows that who Kazuki wanted to see at the Earth Forces base wasn't her but Soshi. *kicks brain*)
I love this series. It wins on the awesomeness even though there's this slight EVA vibe I get that I can't seem to kick. But I ignore that part. Luckily, volume four, while having all that awesomeness, did not cliffhang horribly like I expected. So while the wait is impatient for volume five, it's not as bad as it could have been.
P.S. Geneon: Left-aligning the ending scroll credits for episode fifteen would have been appreciated. Especially after seeing the original Japanese ending for that episode that did left-align. It would have made watching that ending a little easier, I think.
