Someone's not thinking

Before I start on the goodness of Harry Potter news lately, I'm going to talk about games first. (Shocking, I know. ^_^)
Maybe you've heard in the news about the Top 10 Most Violent Games of the holiday season. If you haven't, let me point out the list. (Btw, this info comes from my lovely weekly Video Store Magazine, which I get for free since I work for a video retailer. ^_^ I don't think they sell it anyway.)
Well, the list consists of the following:
At least three of those games seem odd to be on the list. Most of these I expect really. But Gunslinger Girls 2 is available only in Japan. Hitman: Blood Money isn't due out until sometime in 2005. And Shadow Hearts: Covenant has a teen rating even though the rest of the list has mature ratings. I'm laughing more about the Gunslinger Girls game. Maybe the parent groups are more worried about that dangerous import market over here. Wonder what they will say when Funimation puts the anime out next year?
Basically, my whole thing about this is, if you are a parent it is your duty to understand these ratings instead of blaming others. Yes, I understand parental duty can only go so far and kids will get the games they shouldn't be playing. (And the ERSB rating system doesn't seem to catch everything it probably should.)
But be informed! Understand what you or your kid is buying!
Now concludes my very mixed up small discussion about video games. ^_^
Also, if you haven't heard (and if you're on my list, you probably already have), JK Rowling has finished the sixth book in the series Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. July 16th is the release date and yay for that! And its supposedly a bit short than Order of the Phoenix as well. I must go pre-order my book now. ^_^
