So, thoughts on the Samurai 7 ending. Spoilers abound, obviously.
So what the hell. The fight the entire series was teasing us with, never happened because Katsushiro (known hereafter as Chibi) killed Kyuzo in friendly fire. The hell?!? And Noooooooo! Seriously. Was very disappointed we didn't get to see this fight. And Kyuzo's death was a surprise. I knew he wasn't dead the first time they thought he was, because hey fight to be done first. So when he appeared up again with a broken? arm, yay he lived! And not. Dammit.
And we thought for certain that Chibi had gotten the girl. What happened to 'I'll descend with you?' The series seemed to want to put them together, though I did see at first that Kirara had some feelings for Kanbe. But when they took off for that last time to take out the capitol, she tries to announce her feelings for Kanbe but he rejects her. So, huh.
We also thought for certain that Kanbe was going to bite it. Huh. What do you know, he makes it throughout the series. Though I was highly, highly amused how he taunted the executioner. And the whole, 'no I don't have any tactics' for the last battle was probably the best thing to have. :D
Yay for Shichiroji making it. Wanted at least one person with someone waiting on them to make it. However, Nunky did not. And after promising to become Komachi's husband after she grew up. *sniff* And awww Heihachi...who joined to console his guilt and to eat rice.
Chibi grew into being a samurai, though he did have that rebellious teenage stage towards the end. And now he has Kanbe's sword. In that again changing era, would he even be useful? Or is he the last of a dying specialty?
So, really good series. Though the animation style drifted a bit in a few episodes, though that may have been intentional but with Gonzo...maybe not. But still, really good series. Go out and watch it.
