Keyboard cleaniness

Keyboards are disgusting!
It took me two hours to clean this one out. Opened up the back, though that was tough considering it had like 12 screws and was hard to pop open. That wasn't the dirty part though. After putting it back together, I took a screwdriver and started popping off the keys. And boy was that disgusting to see what was underneath.
Also, items needed for cleaning a keyboard that hasn't been cleaned in years:
-Rubbing alchool
-Lots and lots of paper towels
-Lots and lots of Q-tips
-A screwdriver (flathead would work better but a phillips works just fine)
-Digital camera (optional)
-A vaccuum (also optional)
See, a coke has been spilled near the keyboard before. And some of it did splash on it. So it took longer because I had to clean that out.
Tips:
-Take a picture! Seriously. Take several to make sure you get the keys back in the right place. If you don't have one, then only pop a few at a time. Also, have a handy piece of paper nearby to lay the keys out in the right order.
-I wouldn't suggest popping the Enter (Return) or Spacebar keys. They might be really difficult to return. Try to clean as best as you can around it.
-Do pop the shift keys. Especially if they are sticky. My shift keys had a metal bar underneath that was actually rather easy to get back into place. This may just be my keyboard though.
-Soap and water in the sink is a lot faster in cleaning keys than rubbing alcohol and q-tips. So for the really dirty keys, take them to the sink to clean. Make sure you stop the drain though so you don't lose the key down that way.
-Make sure to clean around the sides of the keys. Especially if you eat at your computer.
-If you have a vaccuum with a brush attachment, that would be good to get the dirt/pet hair/crumbs out. Make sure none of the keys are near the hose though. Otherwise you will have to dig them out. I didn't have a vaccuum I could use, but it certainly would have been faster.
Whew. It feels better now to type on it. Though I'm still missing hitting letters and the spacebar sometimes, I think I can start blaming my typing speed on that one. Or the keyboard still. Who knows. :>
