D.Gray-Man anime

So, I've been watching a lot of the D.Gray-Man anime for the last couple of days. I've watched up to episode 51 and boy do I have some comments.
Okay, first off: filler. With an anime based on an ongoing manga series, this was inevitable. Prior to the Barcelona battle, the filler eps weren't bad. They gave a little more insight or background into characters we only see for a little bit. Like Daisya, Suman, General Yeeger and so on. Basically people who got killed off rather fast. Boy, Suman's kind of a jerk in that one ep. He's got his reasons though. (Of course they do.) We also get to see Miranda and Krory getting to the Black Order's base. And Krory's first mission.
But after the Barcelona battle, this filler has been sucking, except for an ep or two. I'm actually rooting for two people to die: annoying!Maid Akuma and cat!Noah. Ep 49 was so close! So close! "You didn't die? Fail!" kinda stuff. Especially when annoying!Maid Akuma revealed her level 2 form. I was so sure! ETA: YES!!! Nice battle sequence in ep 50.
Basically, the notion of this filler is that Lenalee, Allen, Lavi, Bookman, and Krorey are looking for General Cross and heading east. So they apparently must have many adventures along the way. Oh, and we're going to throw adversity at them in the forms of a cat!Noah Lulubell and her annoying!Maid Akuma Mimi. Yeah. We're starting to hit into actual Asian territory now, so we'll probably get back into manga mode soon. They just picked up a new exorcist too. Maybe both the cat!Noah and annoying!Maid Akuma will bite it soon. The entire run of episodes from 40 on has been this new filler stuff. And I hope it'll finish soon. Though episode 40 was kinda a recap episode in a way. ETA: Ooh! Ep. 51's title sounds promising. Sailing to the far east. Sounds like manga arc!
Though there was an interesting filler with Tiedoll, Kanda, and Marie where they run into this weird house.
Two, I liked the extra bits they gave us for some of the bigger battles. Like the Barcelona battle. In vol. 05 of the manga, we shifted from Krory joining the party to Kanda, Daisya and Marie looking for General Tiedoll. The anime gave us some more before the bit in the manga and afterwords. Especially when Allen and Lenalee (of course, on the hunt for General Cross) meet up with a Finder group. Oh, for some background on Allen when he was with Cross, check out ep. 27. You really start feeling sorry for the guy. Cross is one mean master (though the ladies just seem to love him hehe). (Though I love the line in ep 52, that Allen threatens to kill Cross if they find him dead. heheheh)
Wait, I think they've been looking for Cross since ep. 27. Yeesh.
I'm glad they left in the human clock scene that Allen does when they're trying to help Miranda. Though Timcanpy didn't smush his face in like in the manga when it escaped. I love that part. And, oh! Timcanpy is fun to watch in the anime. There's one ep where Allen meets up with General Yeeger and Timcanpy is following a butterfly around. It's such a cute little golem. (And its growing! No one notices this in the anime apparently. In ep 51 its gotten much bigger than two eps ago.) There needs to be a Timcanpy plush. *nods*
Three, subbers: Shinsen's not bad. But I do much prefer Black Order's eps to theirs. Black Order follows the familiar naming schemes that Viz does. Like Akuma, Black Order, and I like how they do the attack names. So I tend to enjoy the Black Order subbed eps a bit more. Shinsen goes with demon, Dark Order (though they had another name for it in the first couple of eps they did, Dark organizaion or something like that), and they're good on the attack names. Though they are going with Aleister Crowley for Krory. Yeah, weird, but I don't have to automatically correct the names in my head when watching Black Order's versions. It's a matter of preference really. ETA: Oh! Forgot this one, until I was watching it again. Shinsen uses Marshall and Black Orders uses General. I guess it depends on the actual Japanese word at that point.
All in all, a fun series. I definitely will own the boxsets whenever FUNimation releases them. Singles for this long of a series is just annoying. And expensive.
