And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what we do not do as a company employee. The first commentor? Is an official LiveJournal/SixApart representative.

There's the words epic fail in there somewhere. (And possibly schadenfraude in the future.)

People get fired for less. When you are hired on a representative of the company and you use your journal making announcements on official communities, you represent the company. Using said official journal to make comments indicating, possibly in jest, that half or more of your users are pedophiles? Not on.

What do I mean by people getting fired for less? I've heard so many stories in my classes about people working for one beer company, going to the bar in their uniform, and drinking another company's beer. When you wear the uniform, you represent the company. LiveJournal is a bit different since it's an online community. But [livejournal.com profile] burr86 is an official representative, and should not be making such posts, even in jest. Basically this is fanning the flames.

(There are so many responses to him that I can't even get LJ to show the entire thread for the first comment.)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge for pointing this post out.

ETA: The mod at [livejournal.com profile] efw deleted the post. For those curious what he said, click here.

ETA the 2nd (August 6): And there' are two online articles about this now:
LiveJournal arouses the ire of its users…again.
Livejournal Employee Publicly Mocks Fandom I didn't know that Firefox had a news thingy?

Sorry if anybody is sick of this. I'm sick of it too but I keep going back just to see if something has been done on LJ/SA's side. Monday's the start of the business week. We'll see I guess.

Livejournal strikes again. But this time in bold.

Dear random posts about zombie invasions,

No love,

Imagine my growing dread as I read [livejournal.com profile] kyrakitty's most recent post on my friendslist about an empty street in front of the restaurant. Sadly, my first thought was, 'That's not right... I would have parked there.' I'm reading and trying to remember to breathe and not freak out. Then I realize, its not real. WTF. And the next post down on my friends list? Another zombie post!

Erg. Vivid imaginations with a great fear of the dead AND it being in the middle of the night near the middle of nowhere does not mix well with realistic random zombie posts. I hate zombie movies. (Though why I'll watch Resident Evil, mainly in broad daylight, I have no freaking clue whatsoever...)

I'll be over here having a mild panic attack.

ETA: Fuckery. Can't figure out why I'm reading these outside of just pure reading interest (Being broad daylight outside helps ALOT), but there are quite a few good ones written about that. Check out: [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl, [livejournal.com profile] deza (I got chills from this one), and [livejournal.com profile] jim000037. Scroll down to the first post on the 13th and start reading. And of course, the first link I posted at the top has a ton of LJs and blogs linked.

I am totally getting this artbook. Hopefully Sasuga Books will have it at A-kon. If not, time to order it.

Power woes

I was so, so close to having a half day today. So close.

Just before 1pm, the power went out. I went to check if the next door restaurant still had power and found out the entire street was down. Then it came back up as I was walking back into the store. So, okay, that's abnormal but it happens. A little bit later the power blipped, then went out totally a few minutes after that. Checked again with restaurant and found out the entire street was out again. So while explaining the situation to my coworker, who had just come back from an errand, I saw a plume of black smoke off in the near distance.

Being the curious sort, we decided to go to Walgreens while trying to check out if we could see where the smoke was coming from. Turns out the entire village is out of power. And the smoke was further than we wanted to walk. So I call [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf to see if she could find out anything. And heard it from a worker in the salon next door that there was a major substation for the area on fire. The words 'fire ball' and 'explosion' were used. And its not just the village but a much larger area out of power.

So we hung around a bit more, had the door propped open for the cool air, and put up a sign for us being closed. As we were considering leaving for the day a little after 2pm, the power came back up.

And we seem to be the only street up with power in the village (though that has probably changed in the last ten minutes since there was a power truck in the street). We found this out by calling around for open places that had food. And I walked down the street to the corner to see if we were the only part of the street with power.

Does that temperature seem wrong to you? Because it is! That's the temperature right now. In Houston. Texas. You know... the South. Also near the coast.

We get to blame Canada for this one.

I had to break out my coat and scarf again. Good thing they weren't put up yet but residing in the trunk of my car.

ETA: From the weather bulletin: "A WARM FRONT WILL SURGE BACK NORTH MONDAY WITH A DRAMATIC WARMUP TO FOLLOW." So we'll be back to normal on Tuesday. Go fig.

So today at the anime store...

There was a guy who looked at our rental DVD hentai shelf for two to three HOURS!! Very nice guy (only kinda creepy), only asked me two questions. But he went through our entire shelf very slowly. I think he was reading the back and deciding on what hentai he wanted to rent.

Our boss is not allowed to leave for Vietnam again. Seriously. We've had all sorts of minor catastrophes this last two weeks.

So, remember the post I made about the show and tell spider thread on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes?

Yeah. So, today I got shown a brand new spider post at work on the same community. It's hilarious. But, OMG, do NOT google huntsman spiders unless you have to share the terror with your coworkers/friends/family of how HUGE and FLAT these spiders are. (Though the original post that was quoted does have a picture of the spider in the comments.)

The post? Is here. And it truly is hilarious. Just don't click on the comment thread about clock spiders. Seriously.

And we also learned at work that Antarctica is not any better on their spiders. To see proof, either google or visit wikipedia about Sea Spiders. (Two Feet! Huge fucking spiders.)

Today I realized that humanity is disgusting.

Flood, flood, flood, oh noes stuff! )

Meanwhile, at my home, I got a moat right now. Unfortunately it is covering my driveway, but with careful driving, I can escape. Hopefully it will drain tomorrow or so. The curve in the road that had running water over it has one lane dry now. So very soon I will have lawn again.

Yanked from Google headlines:

Yeah. That sounds wrong. Bleah.

Found it!

There are no words.

(Well, yes there are actually. Ouch, and hysterical laughter with WTF?!)

Heard about this on the 17th while driving back to work after picking up [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf.
