Anime Expo 2008 News bits of interest to me
This is mainly news of interest to me and maybe others. I'll include links to articles for those who want to browse more and see what other nice stuff was picked up this convention. (Which by the way, was a LOT.)

Digital Manga Publishing:
Digital Manga Publishing Adds More Titles
Awesome news: Princess Princess + has been picked up. We'll probably see it in 2009 knowing my luck. I'm happy to see it has been picked up. I adore Princess Princess. I'll probably be also looking at Tale of a White Night by Tooko Miyagi and Millennium Prime Minister by Eiki Eiki.
Fafner novel is out July 8th. Good, that means I can start stalking bookstores this weekend for the novel.
Viz:
Viz Media panel news
Gestalt by Yun Kouga has been picked up. I hope they're going to use the new releases that she's done lately. Supposed to be released in June 2009. No news on the hiatus titles Prince of Tennis, Hikaru no Go, and MAR. Though MAR is probably dropped.
Death Note boxset for the manga in October (volumes 1-12 and 13 How to Read). But I already have bought the entire series except the novel (got to get money for that one), but good for other peoples.
September has a Bleach manga boxset coming out. 21 volumes of Bleach. Interesting!
Hunter X Hunter is getting the boxset route. I'm thinking about picking this up, eventually. I liked what I saw of it.

FUNimation Entertainment Awarded Rights to Titles Previously Held by AD Vision
Basically the title winner for this convention. I mentioned in the last post that FUNimation had signed Geneon's titles, the next day brought the announcement that FUNimation has now gotten ADV's Sojitz's titles. That about 50 titles. No new announcement at their panel, though there was mention on the panel description that there was going to be.
There's going to be singles released for Geneon titles that have already started. Price points are going to be the same but boxset prices should be more in line with FUNimation's boxsets. (Did they get Samurai Champloo? I can't remember.) Which, by the way, FUNimation's usual single SRP disc price is the same as Geneon's SRP: $30, which is also industry standard. When you see it at Best Buy, discounts have already been applied. Geneon's boxset prices were the overkill ones. Geneon titles should start hitting stores in August.
FUNimation wants to work with ADV on the Sojitz's titles and ADV mentioned in their panel that they hope that the new owner of the titles will work with them for continuity sake. I guess it all down to contract negotiation now. I'm still going to pick up the ADV versions of Utawarerumono and Le Chevalier D'Eon, since the series are finished already. Probably the Jing OVA as well.
Ouran Host Club cast press release
Ouran High School Host Club has a release date! October 28. 13 episode boxsets and the second one will be released in January, 2009. I'm so going to pre-order this. Its an awesome, awesome show and you should get it too!
Dark Horse:
Dark Horse convention report
Oh lookie! Dark Horse has picked up the Shinji Ikari Raising Project, yet another Evangelion remake manga. Supposed to be released spring-ish 2009. I only got to read a few chapters of this one, though it looks like more of a love comedy. I might pick it up. Though I must say I like the newest EVA remake, The Record of Heaven's Descent or something. Currently ongoing. I hope someone picks that one up.
Also looks like the Clover vol. 04 that was passed around at the panel is missing. Dark Horse would like it returned. They probably shouldn't have passed around production materials like that. Also, speaking of Clover, the omnibus of it will be released in March 2009. And it will contain digitally remastered portions. Welp, looks like I'll be re-buying again.
Gantz will go bimonthly after volume 4 from what I was reading in the AoD forums.
ADV:
ADV panel transcript
Well, ADV is still living. They parted with Sojitz, which they also lost 30 titles. FUNimation has them now. Apparently they have a new partner now and are in negotiation for 23 titles. Otakon should bring about more news. Hopefully they'll find a way to keep on going.
Kadokawa Pictures USA:
AX08: Kadokawa Pictures USA panel
They're a Japanese licensor with a US office who works with US companies to release anime for those that don't know. Haruhi and Full Metal Panic 2nd Raid are just two of their titles released by Bandai and Funimation respectively.
Three titles of interest:
Coo ~Our Guardian~ (Wagaya no Oinari-sama)
Romantica ~Pure Love~ (Junjou Romantica)
Spice and Wolf
Currently unknown which company is going to be releasing them, but soon.
Other random news of interest:
Nozomi Entertainment: Announced the DVD release of Toward the Terra movie they originally had on VHS. They also picked up Gakuen Alice TV series.
Go!Comi: Woooo! Crown has been announced! Yes! I had hoped they would get this one. They've done excellent work on Cantarella. Crown should be finishing this year, then Higuri You MIGHT go back to working on Cantarella.
Broccoli: Apparently, no titles announced because Shizuka (an employee) wasn't there. No news on their lagging release dates either. I just found out that E's vol. 05 isn't even released yet. Oh goody.
801 Media/June: Announced Clan of the Nakagamis 2, which vol. 01 was hilarious. And a bunch of other titles that I will have to check out what they are.
Tokyopop: .hack//G.U. novel announced. Twelve Kingdom's novels are safe. Some of the light novels will be re-evaluated but some are still continuing. Nanae Chrono's other manga Senki Senki Momotama will be released as Momo Tama. I'll have to take a look at that one, though what I saw of the Japanese series didn't sell me on it. Togainu no Chi manga series announced. Woo! I've three volumes of it so far. It's a BL game, but the manga is more focused on the action aspect of the game. (No, not the sex parts. :P Togainu no Chi is really "a violent, action-oriented BL game.")
According to giapet and Bayoab, someone asked at Tokyopop's panel for them to "please stop releasing yaoi". To which the answer was a resounding no. Idiot. The reason why there's so much, is because it sells so well.
Whew. Lots of information and I didn't even cover it all.
