The Wind Waker Commentary 04

Part Twelve:

-They ate the other piggies I got for them? Poor things!!!

-Man, it's tough getting 500 hits on my sword teacher. Also finger numbing.

Part Thirteen:

-Been a bit. Finished up some more figurines and got all of the pieces of heart.

-Figures. Link is the hero of legend. The Hero of the Winds. The Trifrorce of Courage is now a part of his hand.

-Oh, that is not how I left Hyrule Castle. Things are damaged, pillars are toppled, and the statue of the Hero is in pieces. Zelda probably isn't there anymore.

-Yay! She's there. Link looks happy to see her. Oh? She's an illusion? Woah. Huh, I didn't realize the floor was carved with praying and pleading figures around the Triforce symbol. Great. Ganon's at full strength. And Zelda is not here (heheh, reminds me of 'The princess is at another castle.')

-Haha, oh the first response to seeing the Dark Nuts appear to put me into an eternal sleep was "Oh! I need pictures of those!" hehe. Of course, they were thoroughly defeated.

-And the sculptor didn't like the picture. Bother.

-Huh. Link destroyed the barrier surrounding Hyrule Castle. But its weird. There's lakes and rivers down here. And the ocean far, far above.

-Oh weird. In Ganon's Tower, we go up against all the mid-bosses we went up against before. And Gohma, which was the first one, was in black and white, although Link was in color. And I was limited to what items I had available at that level. So much easier to go up against him with 20 hearts now. ^_^

-Huh, four bosses down and I can enter more of Ganon's Tower. And what do you know, we found the portal that Ganon used to get to the world above (and below). It comes right up into the Forsaken Fortress. Huh. Thought it was funny how the King of Red Lions scared Link when he came into the room.

-Phantom Ganons everywhere. "The hilts of my servants will point the way to me." So when you defeat a Phantom Ganon, the sword will fall and you need to go in the direction that the hilt is pointing. Rather neat. It took a while though. And the reward? Light arrows! That seems to be the only other thing to take down Ganon other than the Master Sword.

-Long hallway of stairs filled with enemies. Well, at least I got the picture I needed that messed up on before.

-Zelda! Wait. Why is she in Ganon's bed? And Ganon is sitting on the bed next to her? Huh. Wait, why does his bed have a moat around it?

-The gods did indeed seal Hyrule, underneath a vast, vast ocean that bears no fish. (Wait how did the people who were chosen survive then? Those islands are small, crops can't really be raised there.) "Your gods destroyed you."

-Woah, Ganon got big. Wait...that's not Ganon. Puppet Ganon it is then.

-Puppet Ganon, three different types of annoying. Argh. Got 'em though. And now Ganon is running off with Zelda. "You may be the Hero of Time reborn."

-Woah, what? He punched me out? The bastard! After reminiscing about his homeland, coveting the wind that blew off of Hyrule, Ganon goes after us. But not by magic, he rushes Link and punches him! The Master Sword goes flying and nearly skewers Zelda. He tells us that we won't die, he just needs the power that's in us (aka the Triforce of Courage). Fate once again brought all three holders of the Triforce together. "Now! Let us put an end to that which binds us together."

-Woah! Just as Ganon was about to touch the complete Triforce to get his wish, the King of Red Lions (King Hyrule) touches it first. He wishes for Hyrule to get washed away, for Zelda and Link to have a future. The seal holding back the ocean starts to dissolve. Link wakes up and gets to his feet. Then Zelda comes up next to him with the Master Sword.

-Nice dual swords there, Ganon. So we basically keep him busy so Zelda can shoot him with the light arrows.

-Hey! You don't backhand Zelda! Bastard! (Though really, you should take down support first if you can.)

-Whew! After a little bit, she recoved.

-Whoops. Got to watch the friendly fire (which is awesome that it is in this game). Zelda just shot me by accident. hehehe And Ganon protects his back now. Doh.

-Well, nothing says ow like a Master Sword in the head. Ow. The end of Ganon I think. Or at least he's sealed again. He turned into stone. Link's worn out and wounded.

-A bit of sad ending there. The King of Red Lions stayed with Hyrule and told Link and Zelda that no matter if there was not anything left for them in the world above, they must walk their path with hope. Zelda tries to get him to come with them, that they will find a new Hyrule, but he declines. Any land they find will not be Hyrule. It will be their land.

-Zelda and Link are covered in bubbles and slowly lift to the surface as the ocean crashes down. Link tries to reach out to the King of Red Lions and the King starts to reach out as well, but he drops his hand. The two lift to the surface.

-Hey, Zelda's back looking like Tetra again. And ocean surrounds them all. But hey, Komali appears! Then Tetra's pirate ship shows up. With Aryll, all the pirates, and even the two new sages Medli and Makar.

-Bubble credits. Yay!

-The pirates with Tetra and Link in his old boat (but it looks dormant, like a regular boat now), leave Outset Island to find a new land.

And you can save your game for a second play through. According to the guide, its really for the figurines in the game, because you can't get them all with the first play through. You get the deluxe picto box and still have the pictures that you took before the game ended. Which was good, because once I took on puppet ganon, I couldn't leave the tower. And apparently Link will be able to understand old Hylian. Which should be awesome for the spirits that speak it entirely, like Valoo, Jabun and so on. Aryll is wearing the dress that she ended the game in, and Link gets to run around in his island gear all game. Heh.

I will have to say, Twilight Princess is still my favorite Zelda game so far, but The Wind Waker would be in a very close 2nd place I think. A Link to the Past in 3rd place with Majora's Mask. Its been rather a long time since playing those last two though.

The Wind Waker is rather cute! The only downside for this game was the sheer amount of sailing we had to do. Yeah, the Ballad of Gales really cut it down halfway through the game, but it was still a lot. There's something nice about being able to just choose your destination and sail your boat there whichever way you want, but it got old really fast. The length of time really killed it for me I think. It had a nice storyline though. Lots of side quests to do. But a pretty good game. I wonder how Phantom Hourglass handles this story. Is it an alternate take on The Wind Waker? Hmm.

I'll probably play the second time through to finish up the figurines but its going to be a while I think.
