The Wind Waker Commentary 01

Ha. Didn't think y'all were going to see this when I said, huh? :P

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Commentary

Part One:

-Okay, start up the game and I wait to see what trailer they added. It is a story, about Ocarina of Time. Thanks Nintendo for at least telling us that Wind Waker is a distant sequel of Ocarina.

-And starting up the game, I get the same story trailer. Bah. Haha, you think I'm going to name Link any other way. Twilight Princess was nice in that the names were inputted already, but you could change them if you wanted to.

-Oh god bright. You try coming off of playing Twilight Princess directly to Wind Waker. It's a little disconcerting. And cell shaded. Definitely a younger Link running around here.

-Just think chibi Link. Chibi Link.

-Hahaha, Link can crawl along the ground. Hehe. Awesome.

-Piggies! No chickens here. Just piggies!!!

-Ahh, tutorial. How nice. Run around the island while you get used to the controls.

-Ha ha, boy Link looks disgrunted to be wearing the hero's green. Though, the story said that all the boys upon coming of age wore the hero's green. Link here only has to wear it for a day. Though I have a feeling its going to be more than a day.

The story part I'm talking about: "On a certain island it became customary to garb young boys in green when they come of age. Clothed in the green of fields, they aspire to find heroic blades and cast evil down. The elders wish only for the youths to know courage like the hero of legend…"

-Of course pirates. Being there means that our sister gets kidnapped by a giant flying bird. After saving the girl that was dropped, of course. Thankfully we get to go along with them to save Aryll. Does everyone have to comment on how Link looks? Aww, Link looks so sad to be leaving home.

-Pirates! Tetra put Link in a barrel and launched him to the Fortress! That's just mean! Oops, lost my sword. Then again with that landing, I'm shocked we didn't lose our brains!

-Hahahaha, Link in a barrel. That's how we stealth around this fortress. In barrels. Heee.

-Link. When stealthily going around a fortress, making happy and loud noises upon finding your sword will indeed get you in trouble.

-Found her! But, then giant bird grabs Link and oh ho! Is that Ganon I spy? Indeed it is! He gestures to the bird and Link is thrown into the sea. But a boat rescues me! Woo. Hey, how'd he know my name. And the boat...talks? Nice robe though. Wonder if there's a clear shot somewhere of the symbol on the back.

-Hilarious. There's a group of kids calling them selves the Killer Bees, which they start circling me when I get to the school yard. I'm taller than you!!!

-Uh, just met Mr. Tingle. I am now disturbed. But he's helpful. I guess.

-I just got...a way to get hints...from a GameBoy Advance. I forgot that the Cube and the GameBoy could connect. But I have an SP. And I don't have a link cable. So goes that.

-So I'm doing some of the side quests that the guide suggested, and taking pictures of people. Hah. Hide and go seek wasn't bad though.

-Sailing...this is where I think most of the game time will be taken up with.

-Baton timing SUCKS! Yeesh, I couldn't get it to hit right on 4/4 time. So the Wind Waker is a baton. Oh I can see me screwing this up a lot.

-Rito people are nice. Though they were all, "We'll help you. But we have this problem we need to take care of first." Which they were going to try to fix but I beat them to it. Link's like that.

-Fire dungeons... bah. But a rather simple dungeon of sorts. It was easy to figure out where to go. I barely had to consult the guide. Though dying once at the boss wasn't fun. I screwed up there. But second time, totally kicked its butt. And nicely enough, there's these pots that are joined together. Like warp points but in a dungeon. Very nice. So while the game restarted me back at the beginning of the dungeon, I got back to the third level really fast.

-Tell ya one thing though, this game is very stylized. Smoke have curls in them, the windcurrent show up with random lines in the sky, and so on. Very stylized. I think the closest to compare would be Okami.

-Found the wind god, and he called me the new Wind Waker. Learned a new song, which was in 3/4 time. Easier this time to get it but maybe I'm learning when to do the direction at the right time. Looks like I got another side quest to do eventually.

-Oh yeah, sailing will take a huge amount of time. I can see this right now. Because it's taken me a while already. Erg. I miss running around on Epona, warping with Midna already. If what I read was right, damn Hyrule is huge. All that flooded area. Bah.

-So you find fish near islands and things to mark your map. All you have to do is 1) find them jumping, which isn't too hard, and 2) feed them with bait. Huh. Otherwise your map is worth nothing. Because nothing will be marked on it.

-LAND!!! Oh man. I'm tired of sailing already. Because I missed several islands I needed to get marked on my map and I had to tack into the wind back and forth to get where I needed to. Argh. Stopping for today.
