Twilight Princess Commentary 02
Day 2 of playing. :> 12 Hours in I think.
So yesterday I stopped just before the Forest Temple. Like all temples in Legend of Zelda, there's puzzles, treasure chests to find, small keys and the big key, the compass and the map. Your lantern can run out of fuel. But if you carry fuel in a bottle, you can refuel your lantern.
This particular forest temple has Link helping a bunch of monkeys. Their boss has changed and trapped quite a few of them in cages. Link has to free the spirit Faron and to do so, he has to clear out the temple and find the source of dark power that the Light Spirits had locked away in the temples.
Of course the monkey boss was being controled by those Twilight insects. But Link gets something nice for defeating him. The Gale Boomerang! Which houses the Fairy of Wind!
So:
-Boomerang! You came back! (Sorry, had to.)
-The monkeys you free are really nice and help you get across gaping holes in the temple.
-Usual running around in temples going on here.
-Spider bombs are weird but extremely useful. You know, providing you don't hold them too long and they blow up in your hands.
You free the temple, find a Fused Shadow mask-like thing that apparently Midna was looking for, and free the area from Twilight. All in a good day's work. :> We're sent off to another Light Spirit called Eldin to the east.
Sadly, which I forgot to mention in my last post, when Link got clubbed by the invaders, they also took the village children. Link arrives back to Ordona Village to them still missing. But the villagers are happy to see that he wasn't captured by the invaders like they thought. After poking around in Ordona, we leave for Hyrule Field.
Hyrule Field is a huge, expanse of land with the veil of shadow obscuring what looks like half of the field. Even though Link cleared the Faron/Ordona area from Twilight, other areas are still covered. So heading to the east, we come upon the barrier keeping us from Eldin's area. Midna tells us that she'll take us back into Twilight. Faron told us that going back into Twilight means that we would resume our wolf form.
So, Link's back as a wolf and we run into the scent of the Ordona children. Thankfully the trail doesn't go too far, but its in Twilight, and in the village of Kakariko. So that means that the children, and the town inhabitants are spirits right now. All we have to do is free the area from Twilight and they'll resume human form.
But the bridge is out, and Midna introduces us to a way of travel with portals. These are created when Link defeats the large shadow beasts. Thankfully, I remember the weird bridge just sitting there in the Faron forest. So we're transported there and back, and the bridge is transported back with us.
Then its the finding the dark insects that have stolen the light from the Light Spirit. Then when the area is brought back to normal, Eldin sends us to find the dark power sealed with the Goron's mines. And the children! They're back and the town shaman Renado saved them when the invaders left them to die. But he wants you to take them back to keep them safe. But no where is really safe, especially the route back to Ordona. But, Ilia is still missing. Colin, the boy I thought was a girl, with her was with the rest of the children
But trying to go to the mines doesn't work either. A Goron is guarding the entrance and knocks you away. Walking back to Ordona is annoying, but Epona appears again in Kakariko with monsters on her back. She's a bit wild from the ordeal so you have to calm her down before you can ride her again. So you head back to Ordona to talk to the mayor, who is the only one to be respect by the Goron's in strength. Which the truth is hilarious. Gorons do sumo wrestling, and the mayor won by using iron boots to keep from being knocked back.
The villagers know their children are safe, well except for Ilia. But just before you come back to Kakariko, Colin throws himself in the way to keep Beth, another Ordonian, safe from the invaders when they come rampaging in. Link rushes to the rescue then jousts the leader to save Colin. But he's injured and is now being looked after by Renado, his daughter, and Beth. Off to the Goron Mines!
So:
-It's really weird to see Link shirtless but in half of his Ordona garb doing sumo wrestling. Thankfully, in the match against the strongest Goron, he didn't change his outfit at all from his usual green to wrestle.
-Woo! You can get Link's classic Hylian Shield from the shop for a low, low price of 200 rupees. Bah on the price, but I had a full wallet anyways. And it won't burn!
-The Goron Mines are freaking annoying! Lava every where! Fire torches that block your way and have to be shut off.
-Fun thing of the mines? Your iron boots? Turn magnetic! And you flip upside down to stick to the ceiling.
-Other annoying part of the mines? Since the patriarch was foolish enough to tough the Fused Shadow, the other elders split up the big key and locked him deep in the mines. So, you guessed it, Link has to traipze all over the mine dungeon to find all the pieces.
-The Bow! "A weapon left behind from a hero of old..." Nice to have a weapon I can hit with at range.
-The boss? Pretty damn easy considering all the mistakes I made in jumping, timing, and what not in the mines themselves.
Upon defeating the boss of the mines, Midna tells us a little story. Zant is the king of Darkness currently in reign over Hyrule. Midna doesn't like Zelda so much either but that's because of the lifestyle that princesses have. But she won't hurt Zelda. We escape from the mines, and the Light Spirit Eldin sends us on to Lanayru to the north.
There's about where I stopped for the night, though I did run about in Kakariko doing small things and dropping by Faron Woods to talk to a ghostly warrior/wolf who is teaching Link special hidden skills.
Also, this commentary is more summarizing than some of the other commentary I've done. Probably because I'm doing this after I play and not during. If that's not good for those reading it, I can switch to one more like the So: comments, and other previous commentaries. :>
Though, the more I play Twilight Princess, the more if feels like a far future sequel of Ocarina of Time.
