Yaoi-con 2007 Report

I'm back! And I just woke up like less than an hour ago. Yeesh. Didn't set my alarm clock right and I slept through most of the day. We took a midnight flight back. Erg. Not next year. I've had enough of those flights.

This is rather long, so its cut up into sections.

Day 1

Day one started off well. Found a magazine that was covering manga, caught our flight on time, got our luggage at Oakland. The Rental Car bus's second set of doors tried to close on me twice and succeeded. Grrr. I wasn't hurt but it was annoying/scary. We got to the convention in a cute little Chevy Cobalt, using their navigation system. Very handy that system.

After getting tagged and released aka registered and eventually got our hotel room (which was completely awesome), we got ready to sell at the swap meet. Which I didn't sell as much as I would have liked, and I did of course find some things to buy, but it was okay. Very, very cold though. We were in a courtyard that was windy and shady and it got cold quickly. We also didn't get a table either but they managed to get the hotel to bring out more tables. Saw the horrible remnants of [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf's gatorade when we were at the parking lot. Poor thing. We went to Japan Town afterwards and got delicious Japanese food (curry rice!!) and visited Kinokuniya.

Day 2

Day two started off with coffee. [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf is an early riser and she tempted me with coffee to get up earlier than I had planned. Which was okay because 1) peppermint mocha coffee, and 2) we went to sleep the night before at 10pm. Then we hung around the room eating breakfast until the dealers room opened.

The line for that went rather quickly. They had us sit in a room nearby the dearlers room so that we wouldn't block the hallway. The dealers rooms were split into two this year, which was completely understandable once we saw how big the room actually was. It was small, with a lot of people crammed into it. And the second room with all the doujinshi didn't open up until 30 mins after the first one. I had forgotten that the concept of personal space does not exist in dealers rooms...or at conventions most of the time. Ended up leaving my purse with [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf while digging through the doujinshi. Not as much this year but it was better to dig in mostly due to the fact that they had spread them apart a little bit. I made my first major purchase at that table. ^_^

Picked up a few more things in the fan market, including a gorgeous print that managed to make it home without bending much. After looking through that, we got lunch at the hotel. They had a small snack/lunch bar with really cheap prices. I was wanting to buy a Ja-Dou sampler that wasn't available until 2pm so we ate lunch and I ran to get the sampler. After that, we headed Japan Town again to shop around. I picked up a few things and after dinner, headed back to the hotel room. Went to bed early again, but we were tired.

Day 3

Another early wake up with added coffee!, which was compounded by two idiots walking by in the hallway at 2am loudly talking as they walked by. Was not amused by that. But the coffee was delicious.

Another run to the dealers room netted some more doujinshi. [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf bought me a Momiji hat. :> Because I was running low on money. Lunch was a cheap hamburger and looking over our purchases. We saw a really nice Norrington(?)-like cosplayer and [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf managed to get pictures of him. (I didn't have a camera so I asked her to take some pictures for me. :> ) Then [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf headed out to get another suitcase for a carry on, I tried to find out if there was a line for the artist signings. I got really lucky and Mamiya Oki was still doing signings, and there wasn't a line. There was a line building for Hinako Takanaga though, so I ran back to the car quickly to get my Ja-Dou sample manga for Mamiya Oki to sign. And then I joined the line for Hinako Takanaga. Nearly an hour later I got my manga signed (Bokiyou na Silent), a quick trip to the dealers room nabbed a few manga. Then it was off to San Francisco!

We went sightseeing a bit. We visisted Ghirardelli's, Kara's Cupcakes in the Ghirardelli Square. We then visited Fisherman's Wharf for some shopping. We went driving towards Japan Town, but I saw the signs for Coit Tower and Lombard street. I drove to the curviest part of Lombard to go see it briefly. After that, we ended up at Coit Tower since I saw the signs for there and I wanted to actually walk about it. There are some awesome views from there. We even went driving a bit on the hilly streets around there. (We were in search for the mythical Hill sign.) Then we headed to Japan Town for books and dinner. I got to eat curry udon, which was delicious. I would have tried [livejournal.com profile] sarcastic_elf's okonomiyaki but its eggs and seafood which I don't like. After that it was back to the airport and the flight home.

As for what I bought...hmm, it was a lot.
