The political annoyances (includes the usual wtf I saw in the Chronicle this morning) are behind the cut, so that whoever reads this journal has the choice of reading it or not. But first, I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes first, but I'm linking directly to [livejournal.com profile] jedirita's post since who knows if it will stay up.

This is an amazing speech by Senfronia Thompson about the current legislature against gays. As soon as I can compose an appropiate thankful e-mail (a better way of saying "OMG that was wonderful!"), it will be on its way to her.

HJR 6 Speech by Representative Senfronia Thompson (D-Houston)

So far, Senate Bill 6 with the Talton amendment has not quite passed yet...from what I can tell. The Texas Online Legislature page lists that SB6 is currently "04/28/2005 S House appoints conferees-reported
." (as seen here) I believe the amendments are being discussed still, but I'm uncertain.

Unfortunately, HJR6 has made it past the House. It's now in a Senate committee. (Bill Actions for HJR6)

HJR19 (out of the two gay marriage bills, this was the worse) is still in committee in the House and has not gone further.

And the wtf moment: The Houston Chronicle reported yesterday (I don't get the newspaper everyday unfortunately) there is a bill about suggestive cheerleader routines. Ooookay... You know, I think we have bigger problems to deal with. For those interested: Bill HB1476 has passed a House vote already, but according to the Chronicle, it does not have a Senate sponsor yet. Though according to the vote history it's been sent to the Senate today.

For the list of stuff to sell...well it's going to have to wait until Sunday at least. I got the mess behind my chair straightened up and two shelves cleaned up to hold more books. But I need to figure out what I want to sell, and I have to clean up more bookcases. It looks a lot better in here though. Much cleaner and I am reading more of my translated manga to help catch up. ^_^

I really wish we had a state version of C-SPAN. I mean, I would be pissed off almost every time I watched it, but to be able to see Rep. Thompson's speech in real time would have been wonderful.

As it is, I'm seriously pissed off at Martha Wong (my rep), who has avoided voting on this type of legislation before and did it again. Seeing her name under "Present, Not Voting" is almost worse than seeing her under the Yeas would be. She represents a district with one of the largest gay populations in the state... I didn't vote her in before, and even though she voted against the legislation that would bar gays and bisexuals from fostering children, that's not /enough/. *gah*

Unfortunately the Chisum amendment added on to SB6 made it just as bad as HJR19. I wish there was a chance of it getting struck down in the senate but it's probably not gonna happen.

Sorry for ranting at you!

Oh no! Please feel free to rant! I'm of the same mind. ^_^

CSPAN for the state. Now that would be something to watch. And it would have been, just to see Rep. Thompson's speech.

Chisum amendment? I didn't realize more amendments were added to SB6. I just thought that Talton's was the worst. I'll have to check this out now. But it seems like one way or another, they are determined to bring some kind of legislature against gays. You'd think we would learn from history, instead of trying to repeat shades of it. (Wow, this is the most political I've been in quite a while. ^_^)

My browser died when I tried to see how the votes ran, but Martha Wong is annoying me. Considering the district she represents... sheesh.
